Avoid Costly False Alarm Fines

Please take a minute to review some tips that will help prevent unnecessary and costly fines.

1.      Make sure everyone (all family members and staff who are key holders) with access to your property knows how to use the security system. Allow users to practice activating/deactivating the alarm system and inform your monitoring centre when you are doing this.  Read your alarm system manual or call us if you have questions about your security system.

2.      All users must be aware of pass code changes and know the current pass code.

3.      When you set the alarm, ensure all doors and windows are closed and secured. Drafts from improperly closed doors or windows may set off contact sensors. Be aware of plants or décor that might set off motion detectors.

4.      Inform us if you are getting a pet or renovating your property.

5.      Keep your list of contact people up to date.

6.      Test your system monthly.

What To Do If Your Alarm Is Set Off.

A grace period of 30 to 45 seconds is allotted after you enter your property, in order for you to turn off your alarm system. If you cannot make it to the keypad in time, or you have forgotten your pass code and the alarm is triggered, do the following:

·        Secure your premises. If you don't know exactly why the alarm went off, do not disarm it immediately. Identify in which zone of your property the alarm occurred and ensure that you are safe before deactivate your alarm system.

·        Input your pass code to deactivate your system.

·        Call the monitoring centre to report the false alarm.

·        A monitoring center operator will make a courtesy call to your home and will ask for the secret word that identifies you as a valid key holder.
